Degraves St Old Mill

Welcome to our Historic Cottage on Degraves Street!!

Nestled alongside the tranquil Hobart Rivulet, our historic cottage in South Hobart offers a unique glimpse into Tasmania’s past. Built by convicts in 1836, this World Heritage-listed mill once produced woolen blankets for convicts and soldiers. Today, it has been lovingly transformed into a comfortable retreat while preserving its fascinating history.

Inside, you’ll find the original high ceilings and historic windows that add to the charm and character of the space. The cottage comfortably accommodates four guests, with open plan living , kitchen and dining. A spacious master bedroom and a seperate loft space.

**Please note:** The loft is accessed by a steep ladder, so consider whether this suits your needs before booking.

Our location is perfect for exploring. Just a short walk will bring you to the South Hobart shops, pub, and cafes, while a peaceful stroll along the Rivulet Track takes you directly into Hobart’s CBD. For history lovers, the Female Factory is right across the road, and nature enthusiasts will love the nearby Cascade Gardens and the Cascade Brewery—Australia’s oldest. Adventurers can enjoy walking tracks that lead up to the summit of kunyanyi / Mt Wellington.

The rivulet itself is alive with wildlife, including trout, ducks, platypuses, native hens, wallabies, and cockatoos, making it a true haven for nature lovers.

We’ve enjoyed living here for the past thirty-seven years, sharing this peaceful spot with its natural residents and restoring a piece of history. We hope you’ll find it as tranquil and special as we do.
